Away league match

The Second Team were looking for a change of fortunes after last week's result against Glan Usk and were tested at the back after an onslaught of set peices for Llanyrafon. The boys were solid for the majority of the game and battled for points throughout. Matthew Ricketts was one of the outstanding performers for the second team as he was switched to Holding Midfield, winning the majority of the ball and helping to build some promising football going forward. A small lapse in concentration gifted Llanyrafon a 1-0 lead at the half, but the boys remained high-spirited and had a desire to get something from the game. The boys created more going forward in the second half as they pushed for a result but it began to make the game a lot more open by pushing players further forward. Llanyrafon eventually grabbed a second goal on the counter attack and they seemed happy with what they had as they began to play deeper. Llanyrafon survived A bit of late pressure despite a late goal from Matthew Ricketts as they walked away with a 2-1 win. A lack of discipline had been the key factor to the boys losing the fixture but it showed their passion to want to win. They go again next week at Chem Park where they will look to be just as solid at the back and look to find a spark going forward. Special mentions go to Ryan Thomas for saving 2 penalties to keep the boys in the game and the back three of Korri Porretta-Poole, Daniel Jones and Sean Mason who were key in a very defensive battle for the boys.
