Our first 9 a side game and all the lads were excellent, the boys showed some real class at times which was excellent to see. Brixington are a strong side and we matched them in all departments and in my opinion we were the better team for 80% of that game tonight.
Big thanks to Reece for refereeing tonight who was excellent, especially giving the big penalty call which after viewing the footage I have no complaints about ??
The first quarter was all Spartans and lots of intricate play in midfield from the maestro BASSETT gave the potent strike force of KASZUBA and DAVIE many chances to get behind the blues defence. Although lots of possession there was little goal mouth action at either end. HOLLAND looked sturdy between the sticks on the rare occasion he was tested, his kicking too was excellent throughout. Brixington were pinned back for large parts of the first 30 mins mainly down to MAY and DAITZ controlling the ball on either wing. DAITZ was instrumental in our midfield today and caused havoc for the blues defenders on so many occasions.
The second half saw more changes WITH KEYTE and FLAVIN coming into the mix and were both excellent, KEYTE was unlucky not to score with an effort just wide. FLAVIN enjoyed a more attacking RW role and CB for the latter stages which he played with ease. Spartans did find themselves 2-1 down through no fault of our trusted backline of LEE, ALEXANDER and BARNETT. All 3 were brilliant in different ways and especially good to see ALEXANDER back to top form!
The final quarter saw a penalty put brixington 3-2 up to leave TUCKETT frustrated in goal, having only a handful of shots to save but helpless for all the blues goals. REYNOLDS found himself in a CDM role and this may be another position to add to our utility man! He was superb in and out of possession all evening.
The final seconds ticked down and Spartans who were deserving of at least a draw didn't give up when TUCKETT found DAITZ from a well worked goal kick, DAITZ drove through the blue mid and played a perfectly timed pass to KASZUBA who also timed his run to perfection to bring him 1 on 1 with the keeper, KASZUBA will thrive from the bigger pitches this season and finished without an ounce of pressure felt!
