Home friendly match
The boys will learn more from this game than any other played so far, a game where we took our early chance but were over ran in midfield by very strong opposition. I am very proud of all the lads today and losing is a huge part of progression.
The game started at a fast pace with the Alphington striker showing Usain Bolt like pace to keep LEE and ALEXANDER on their toes. These 2 are forming a great partnership and the team will be built around this solid pairing. A new formation allowed BARNETT and SHABYTAH to play in new roles which to their credit they did excellently. Some great build up play saw SHABYTAH break free on the left to finish from a tight angle 1-0. Alphington pushed on and were winning the midfield battle although REYNOLDS and MAY certainly put in their fair share of challenges to steady the ship on lots of occasions. The goal came from a fast counter attack and nothing that HOLLAND could do 1-1.
Half Time
DAVIE and KASZUBA once again were Spartans biggest threat, DAVIE caused havoc for the opposition defence and linked up superbly with KASZUBA. This partnership will offer so much next season!
FLAVIN was absolutely buzzing to play against his school mates and did not disappoint with an all round top class display, breaking up play and playing calmly to his midfield trio.
As the game moved into the last 20 minutes Alphington looked to more likely to score and a back pass that caught TUCKETT by surprise was capitalised on to make it 2-1. Counter attack was our strength today and we did catch them on the break on a few occasions with the driving runs of DAITZ who today in a different position found it tough at times and had 2 players on him most of the game.
1 substitution made all the difference today and that was KEYTE. His composure, eye for a pass and link up play with DAVIE worked wonders and we were unlucky not to get back into the game at this point. Alphington did score a 3rd to put the game out of reach but Spartans never gave up!
Well done to all the lads and today proved that we are one of the best sides in Exeter and on out day we will match any team
