Woodside 1 - 2 Cowie Thistle
Cowie reached the AFC Trophy final with an injury time winner over Woodside tonight.
With yet again a depleted squad, 40 year old Robbo having to play 90 minutes and only 2 fit substitutes, Cowie were up against it against league leaders Woodside but produced a fantastic display to progress.
Playing against the wind 1st half on a port surface Cowie went 1-0 down after 20 minutes when a cross was headed in and for long spells of the 1st half Cowie were hanging on, however they kept trying to attack on the break and when McDonald was taken down in the box 5 minutes from half time, he converted the resultant penalty.
With the winds at their back Cowie should’ve been more comfortable but the game turned into a midfield scrap with few chances for either side until the 3rd minute of stoppage time when an Irv cutback was touched on by McDonald to the back post for Gazelle who slotted home to become the Cowie hero!
There was still time for Woodside to have another chance which was saved by Middleton before the ref blew for full time
An unbelievable effort from every single member of the team tonight, defending from the front, winning the midfield battle and superb defensive clearances, the lads fully deserving of the place in the final against Cove.
