Woodside 4 - 2 Cowie Thistle

Cowie went into today’s game high on confidence after last weeks performance and 6 wins out of 7, but came away with nothing after a poor performance this afternoon.

Cowie had a great chance to open the scoring in 5 minutes when R Cozzy ran onto a Lovick through ball but with the defender closing he dragged his shot just wide of the post.

Woodside then opened the scoring in the 10th minute when one pass split the Cowie defence open and the winger ran through to score.

It was 2-0 after 17 minutes when a mix up at the back ended up with the striker having the simple task of scoring into the empty net.

Cowies chances were then given a boost when on the half hour the Woodside left back was sent off for something said to the referee. Cowie took immediate advantage and made it 2-1 when NICOLL scored a volley at the back post from a Valentine cross.

As the second half started and Cowie looked to press their numerical advantage, more poor defending let Woodside score the 3rd and Jarvie was injured during the goal meaning Wise had to come off the bench and go in.

Cowie made more changes as they looked to try and get back into the game and 2 subs combined when Watson laid the ball out to CRAN who took a touch and curled the ball home from the edge of the box.

Woodside were then reduced to 9 men with 15 minutes left as their centre half was sent off for a tackle from behind, however to be honest Cowie didn’t really look like equalising and in the 88th minute Woodside broke away and after yet again more poor defending made it 4-2.

A total different performance from last weeks fighting display with too many players having off days, full credit to Woodside who defended well and if they took their chances could’ve won by a lot more, but Cowie can’t defend like that against any team and expect to win games, let alone the league champions.
