Westhill 2 - 7 Cowie Thistle
Cowie produced a superb 2nd half performance today to easily progress to the next round of the North of Scotland cup against last weeks opponents Westhill.
With game switched from Westhill to nearby Alford and on the 3G pitch, Cowie played against the wind first half but managed to go in all square at 2-2 with goals from Irvine and McDonald.
With the wind in their favour 2nd half Cowie scored early in the second half when a clear cross from McDonald found the back of the net for 3-2, from then on Cowie completely outplayed their Premier opponents and it was the turn of Irv to run riot as he added a further 4 goals, including a rocket from 25 yards that if it was at training would’ve cleared the fence as usual but today left the keeper with no chance!
Solid defending from the defence and midfield kept Westhill at bay and Cowie were unlucky not to add to their tally.
A convincing win in the end and another strong team performance especially with 11 players out but the lads who came in today showed how strong the squad is and will make it difficult for those missing to get back in
