Cowie Thistle 2 - 1 Thorn Athletic
Cowie made it through to the last 16 of the Scottish Cup for 2nd straight season with a hard fought win over a very good Thorn Athletic side.
Cowie made the dream start with a goal.insode the first minute when a cross from Buck was headed home by SALMOND.
Thorn then reacted and had a few half chances from set pieces but then the game turned when the Thorn defender was sent off in 28th minute for a late challenge on Duguid.
Cowie took advantage and went 2-0 up in the 37th minute when BADGER collected the ball 35 yards out and hit an unstoppable shot high past the keeper.
Cowie then had a couple decent chances to make it 3-0 but couldnt and Thorn got a goal back before halftime when the ball wasn't cleared and the striker tapped in a cross at the back post.
Cowie knew it would be a huge defensive effort required in the 2nd half and the task got harder when McDonald was sent off for a late challenge but didn't look much in it.
Thorn pushed for an equaliser for the remainder of the half but it was Cowie that were creating the better chances as the Cowie backing were limiting the opposition to half chances.
Both teams ended with 9 men as in injury time Duguid was sent off for a late challenge and the Thorn defender retaliated.
An excellent win in the Scottish Cup in front of a big crowd, effort fouldnt be faulted with a superb defensive performance when required.
