Stoneywood East End 2 - 8 Cowie Thistle

Cowie advanced to the quarter final of the AFC Trophy with another convincing win today, in a game played in terrible conditions for the whole 90 minutes.

For the 3rd week in a row Cowie scored two quick goals, this time in the 1st minute when a TJ corner was met superbly on the half volley by RONAN into the top corner. 3 minutes later it was 2-0 when BUCK turned in the box and shot low into the corner.

Stoneywood pulled a goal back in the 13th minute when slack defending allowed the striker to score via the post, but the rest of the half was mainly Cowie as they looked to add more to the score line.

After 40 minutes SMITHY made it 3-1 when he finished after a goalmouth scramble and then just before half time IRV made it 4-1, again following a goalmouth scramble.

Cowie started the 2nd half slow and Stoneywood made it 4-2 in 50 minutes when Ronan completely missed a simple pass from Wise and let the striker in to score. He better start preparing his speech for the Muzzy award!

This was a wake up call for Cowie though and any hope of a Stoneywood revival was finished when IRV made it 5-2 with a shot the keeper really should’ve saved.

It was all Cowie for the rest of the half and SMITHY then scored his 2nd with a delightful chip over the keeper for 6-2 in the 70th minute and then 2 minutes later BUCK scored his second from the edge of the box into the bottom corner that gave the keeper no chance.

SMITHY completed the scoring in the 85th minute and his hat trick when a shot from outside the box went straight through the Stoneywood keeper to make it 8-2 final score.

Another comfortable win, though there were a couple of poor 5 minute spells that allowed Stoneywood into the game slightly but despite the conditions some good football played and onto the quarter final to face Echt.
