Stoneywood EE 1 - 5 Cowie Thistle

Despite heading to New Advocates today with a depleted squad and their 5th different keeper this season, Cowie still put in their best performance of the season by a mile as they ran out comfortable winners.

Cowie playing down the slope and with the wind behind them started right on the front foot pressing the Stoneywood defence and had a couple of half chances in the first couple of minutes before taking the lead after 3 minutes when a cross from Jozza was controlled by Irv and finished into the bottom corner.

Cowie continued to dominate and went 2-0 up after 15 when Smithy fired a free kick into the top corner from the edge of the box, check the video out!

Unfortunately Stoneywood went straight up the park and equalised when a long ball wasn’t dealt with, the striker hit the post with the shot and then keeper Wiseman clattered into the other striker, for a stonewall penalty which was converted for 2-1. Cowie could’ve scored a couple more before half time but there was no further scoring.

Expecting a Stoneywood onslaught in the 2nd half playing up slope, every Cowie player dug in, fought for every ball but continued to play passing football and it was through a great passing move they made it 3-1 on 60 minutes when a Nicoll through ball was crossed in by Jozza and finished 1st time by Irv

This seemed to put the Stoneywood heads down and Cowie and it was 4-1 after 75 when an Irv cut back was finished low by McDonald.

Wiseman made a couple of decent stops to keep Stoneywood out before Irv completed his hat trick in injury time tapping in a Lovick flick on from a Cran corner.

One of the best Cowie performances in a long time, with the effort and attitude right from the 1st minute all the way through to the 90th with all players and subs contributing.
