Sportsmans Club 0 - 6 Cowie Thistle
With recent poor results and performances fresh in the memory Cowie produced a superb display today away at league leaders Sportsmans to come away with the 3 points.
Cowie got off to a perfect start in 5 minutes when a well worked move saw Lovick flick the ball on and NICOLL volleyed home at the back post.
It was then 2-0 in 15 minutes when LOVICK beat a couple of players on the edge of the box and shot low into the bottom corner.
Cowie continued to battle for every ball, creating good chances, defending well and Sportsmans frustrations boiled over near the half hour when their midfielder was sent off for a 2nd booking for a foul on Smithy.
Then just before half time, the Sportsmans keeper and McCombie went for a high ball in the box and as the ball was cleared an off the ball incident occurred and the Sportsmans keeper was shown a straight red and a penalty awarded to Cowie, LOVICK stepped up and made it 3-0, scoring his 100th goal for Cowie in the process.
The game threatened to get out of hand as the half time whistle came and there was a long delay to starting the 2nd half but eventually the game got underway and Cowie took advantage of the 9 men straight away when CRAN made it 4-0 running through to score from a Lovick pass.
It was 5-0 soon after when Smithy cut the ball across and BUCK had the simple task of finishing into the empty net.
After 60 minutes it was 6-0 when CRAN went on a solo run beating 3 or 4 defenders and scoring from close range.
That was the end of the scoring as for the last half hour the game lacked any real urgency as Cowie were happy to keep the ball and Sportsmans happy to prevent any more scoring.
No doubt the red cards changed the game but even before this Cowie were 2-0 up, an example of what this young team is capable of, just need to find this level of performance more consistently, especially against teams in the lower half of the league.
Scorers today Lovick(2), Cran(2), Nicoll, Buchanan
MOTM - McCombie
Mon ih Cowie!
