Away league match

Newtonhill 4 Cowie Thistle 4

Cowie got their first point of the season tonight but really will feel it should’ve been 3 in a game that had everything.

Cowie took the lead in 15 minutes when a corner wasn’t cleared and LOVICK flicked the ball home.

Cowie had further chances to increase their lead, hitting the bar and post before scoring 2 goals in 2 minutes when first WATSON volleyed home from a Smithy corner and then COZZY took advantage of a defenders slip to run past the Newtonhill defence to make it 3-0 just before half time.

Not for the first time though Cowie threw away a 3 goal lead in the 2nd half, losing the ball on the edge of the box which led to a goal in the 50th minute and then on 55 minutes Newtonhill were awarded a soft penalty and Williams was sent off for something said to the referee, penalty scored for 3-2.

Cowie tried to press forward with 10 men and they were awarded an equally soft penalty on 60 minutes but Lovicks spot kick was easily saved, to make matters worse Newtonhill equalised 5 minutes later with another poor goal from Cowies point of view, but at least in the aftermath the No.10 was sent off for his celebrations.

With both sides down to 10 men and going for the win, with 5 minutes to go VALENTINE then scored the goal of the season and any other season when a cross from Cozzy was met on the volley from outside the box and the ball flew into the top corner.

This wasn’t the end of the action though as Cowie couldn’t hold out and with 2 minutes remaining Newtonhill won the ball easily in the centre of the park and a through ball found the striker who made it 4-4.

The effort was there again with limited numbers but it’s a lesson for Cowie in giving away sloppy goals and becoming complacent when in a winning position but it’s a point and on to Saturdays game, another local derby against St Laurence

A special mention to Brodie Stewart who’s helped us out in goal the last 2 games from the u19s whilst Jarvie is on holiday, he hasn’t looked out of place at all and is a young keeper with a great future ahead of him

Scorers today Lovick, Watson, R Causby & Valentine
