Monymusk 1 - 8 Cowie Thistle

Cowie made sure there was no shock in the North of Scotland Cup today with a convincing victory over Monymusk.

Despite the heavy rainfall throughout the day the pitch was in good condition and Cowie began well again, dominating from the start and should’ve been at least 4-0 up from the chances created but somehow found themselves 1-0 down after 15 minutes when a Monymusk striker scored from 30 yards into the top corner.

This didn’t affect the pattern of the game though and Cowie continued to create chance after chance after chance with poor finishing and some unbelievable goalkeeping keeping them out but they eventually got the equaliser after 30 minutes when Smithy scored another beauty into the top corner.

Within 5 minutes of the first goal it was soon 3-1 when first Gandhi scored a tap in and then Craig Buchanan ran through to score his first for the club. There was one more goal just before half time as Aidan Cran made it 4-1 with a back heel.

The 2nd half carried on like the first with Cowie completely in command and added a 5th soon after half time when Buchanan scored his 2nd.

Irv then scored 2 goals in 3 minutes to make it 7-1 after 70 minutes, the second finishing off a fantastic team passing move and Cran completed the scoring when he headed home at the back post from a Jozza cross.

Credit to Monymusk who kept trying throughout the game despite the obvious difference in class, but if it wasn’t for the goalkeeper and some questionable finishing this could’ve easily been well into double figures. Only against a 2nd division team but some of the football played today was great to see and carries on the recent good run and performances.
