Ellon 1 - 2 Cowie Thistle
Cowie earned what could be a crucial 3 points today with a winner in injury time at Ellon.
With a howling wind ruining any chances of decent football being played, Cowie played against the wind first half and struggle to get a hold of the game. A great opportunity came their way after 10 minutes when Irv was brought down in the box but the strikers penalty was weak and bobbled slowly on it’s way to hitting the post.
Ellon then went 1-0 up after half an hour and had a chance to make it 2 shortly after with a penalty of their own but this time their striker smashed his effort off the crossbar.
With injured Captain Woody having to come off at half time for the returning McWilliam and with his influence Cowie started to get the ball down and attempt to play some football unlike their opponents who had started to time waste from the moment their first goal went in.
Cowie equalised after an hour when a shot from McDonald was spilled by the keeper and Gazelle followed up to make it 1-1. From then there was only going to be one winner as Cowie dominated and as the 90 minutes elapsed Neil Fowler was the hero as he shot home after a lay off from Cooper.
Not pretty but a deserved win with the whole team fighting right to the end and one that keeps the pressure on the sides at the top of the table.
Scorers today Masson & Fowler
