Cowie V Echt : 7th August

Cowie Thistle 4 - 3 Echt

17 months it's been for a competitive game of football but it was worth the wait as Cowie made a winning start to the season with a dramatic last minute winner today against Echt.

Knowing a good start was vital, Cowie made the perfect start with a goal inside 2 minutes, TJ heading home a Cran corner. Cowie then doubled their lead when a through ball from Jarvie was missed by the defender and STEVIE ran in and finished past the keeper. Cowie were on top and made it 3-0 in the 25th minute when good football through the middle sent Shaun out wide and his low ball across the box was finished at the back post by IRV.

Cowie were then dealt a blow as Bruce was forced off with injury, with no natural defenders available as it was, we ended up with 3 midfielders along the back line as Stevie Nicoll dropped in.

Echt then scored 2 quick goals before half time to get back into the game, the first a scramble from a corner and the 2nd a good finish from the left winger.

The 2nd half turned into a defensive effort, trying to hit on the counter, whilst limiting Echt to few chances, with Jarvie making one good save with his feet, however Echt thought they'd got a point in the 88th minute when we gave the ball away up front and Echt played it down the line and Gazelle was unlucky to turn the ball into his own net from the cross.

That wasnt the end of the drama though as we kept pushing for a winner and in the last minute a header across goal from Lovick was missed by the keeper and defender and CALLUM made up for his earlier error by poking the ball home at the 2nd attempt.

3 points to start the season and great character shown to win it in last minute after conceding so late on, onto Wednesday and a game against Banchory.
