Cowie Thistle 0 - 2 Echt
Cowie’s last realistic chance of a trophy this season disappeared when Echt completed the double over them in this AFC Trophy Quarter Final.
The first half was a scrappy affair with neither side testing the goalkeepers although Echt did hit the bar late in the first half.
Despite still being well in the game at the start of the second half, the team then produced easily their worst 45 minutes in years as Echt comfortably won with a superb goal from 30 yards into the top corner and then a penalty with about 15 minutes to go. Cowie didn’t even have a shot on target until near the end of the game so poor was the performance.
Cowie were missing 5 regular first team players but that’s no excuse, the team put out was more than capable of winning the game but Echt deserved the win and Cowie could still be playing now and not have scored.
A disappointing result, with only a couple of players getting pass marks, the effort was there from all just not the quality required. We’ve 8 league games remaining to try and finish as high up the league as possible.
