Away league match

Cove Thistle 4 - 4 Cowie Thistle

In an eventful game tonight Cowie earned a hard fought point having to play well over an hour with 10 men.

Cowie took the lead inside 5 minutes when Oldroyd was fouled in the box and SMITHY scored the penalty.

Cove reacted to the early goal and Peco had to make a couple of good saves but they soon equalised after 15 minutes when a long ball wasn’t dealt with and the striker finished into the bottom corner.

The game then turned on around 25 minutes when Craig Watson was sent off for something said to the ref, leaving Cowie down to 10 for the rest of the game.

Cove took advantage and had a few chances and then just before half time made it 2-1 with a scramble from a ball into the box with the final shot taking a couple of deflections before finally going in.

Playing up the slope and with 10 men Cowie were up against it but they equalised not long into the second half when a long ball from Peco was misjudged by the defender and substitute COZZY made no mistake from close range.

Cowie then took the lead when a flick on from Irv found COZZY again and he superbly lobbed the keeper for 3-2.

Cove however made it 3-3 straight away from the restart when a cross evaded everyone and ended in the far corner.

Cowie still pressed to try get a winner but conceded a penalty when B.Smith fouled the striker and Cove made it 4-3 from the spot.

Cowie didn’t give up though and equalised with less than 10 minutes to go when good work on the left found Muzzy who squared for VALENTINE to make it 4-4.

There was still time for Kyle Gordon to be sent off, after being subbed, again for something said to the referee although no one is exactly sure who said it and the game finished a couple of minutes later.

A great effort to earn a point with 10 men for the majority of the game with some great shifts put in all over the park but the discipline really needs to improve going forward, but if there was action against some of the tackles going in then maybe people wouldn’t complain so much! Anyway at least that should be the last game of struggling for a team as more lads make a welcome return next week.

Scorers tonight A.Causby(x2), Smith(pen) & Valentine
