vs Cheam Sports Youth U12 Colts
Home league match
On 30 November 2025, Corinthian Casuals U12 hosted Cheam Sports Youth U12 Colts at the Corinthian ground for a 9-a-side league fixture kicking off at 10:00am. After 60 minutes of intense, physical football, the visitors secured a narrow 1–0 win with a late second-half strike.
Corinthian Casuals set up in a 3-4-1 formation, with Thomas Albuquerque, Freddy Horwood and Lourenço Afonseca forming a solid back line. The midfield featured Leo Bradley on the right, Archer Edwards and Harvey O’Connor in central roles, and Fraser Ross on the left. Carter Matthews operated as the lone striker, supported by the midfield unit, while Albie Safarty started in goal. Cooper Lund began on the bench.
The match began with high energy on both sides, but Cheam Sports Youth quickly asserted the greater attacking volume, maintaining sustained pressure and creating the more dangerous early chances. Casuals, however, defended bravely, with Safarty producing a series of outstanding stops that kept his team in the game and ultimately earned him Man of the Match.
At the 20-minute mark, Casuals made their first change, with Cooper Lund replacing Fraser Ross. The home side continued to battle for control, looking to break forward when possible, although Cheam remained the more assertive team in possession.
Early in the second half, Corinthian Casuals were denied what appeared to be a clear penalty, with the referee waving play on despite strong appeals. Minutes later, Ross returned to the pitch at 37 minutes to replace Leo Bradley, and at the 45-minute mark Bradley re-entered for central midfielder Archer Edwards—substitutions aimed at injecting fresh energy into the side.
As the pressure continued, Safarty was again called into action several times, keeping the scoreline level with excellent reflex saves.
The breakthrough eventually came in the 44th minute of the second half, when a momentary lapse in the Casuals defensive line allowed a Cheam attacker to finish calmly from inside the area, giving the visitors a decisive 1–0 advantage.
In the final minutes, Casuals pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Cheam defended resolutely and saw the match out.
The referee’s performance drew criticism from spectators, not only for the missed penalty but also for failing to issue any card after a clear last-man professional foul, which halted a promising Corinthian attack. These decisions added to the sense of frustration surrounding the match.
Although Cheam Sports Youth enjoyed the larger share of possession and the greater volume of attacking chances, Corinthian Casuals still carved out meaningful opportunities of their own—most notably the unawarded penalty and a powerful strike that rattled the crossbar late on. With a touch more fortune, the scoreline could have looked very different.
Corinthian Casuals will now regroup and prepare for next week’s Cup fixture, encouraged by their resilience and determined to build on the positives from this hard-fought contest.
