Juniors Lacking Confidence!

The girls faced Kent without the services of Layla, Bobbi, Carly and Mya. Unknown opposition were soon to show their hand as a tough bunch that the girls would have to match.

Once again the team did not have the best of starts, looking frigile on the ball and seemed unable to impose themselves on their opposition. From a corner, the visitors struck the first goal, a well struck shot from the edge of the area (0-1). After Brooke headed just over from Sadie’s corner kick the team slipped further behind from a cross and finish (0-2). The first move of serious quality ended with Annabel dragging an effort wide of the target.

HT 0-2

Frustratingly, there was not a massive change at the start of the second half, still playing on the back foot. There was an upturn in fortune however after Summer was floored by one of many robust challenges. From the free kick, the quick thinking of Abbie sent Megan clear and her slick finish wide of the onrushing goalkeeper reduced the deficit (1-2). Not for the first time in recent weeks they could not maintain momentum and from another cross the team were pegged back again (1-3). As well as a seemingly lack of confidence on the ball, Sadie and Faye could not finish the match and goalkeeper Kacey became the substitute outfield player and she did a solid job at right back. Eva was pushed to the right side of midfield and almost immediately produced the cross that Brooke scored from, her sharpness giving the visiting goalkeeper no chance (2-3). Again the team could not build momentum and conceded again, from a dubious free kick the ball somehow made its way into the goal (2-4). More endeavour and aggression was showed in the final ten minutes but the damage was done, the team not showing the quality to break down a stubborn defence again.

Summary:

Another tough day for the girls, unable to build the momentum necessary. Individually, the confidence is not there, this happens at all levels of football and is tough to drag yourselves out of these periods. If the girls apply themselves in the right manor and commit to the team, the upturn of fortunes will not be far away.

FT 2-4.
