Juniors Blown Away!

Stoneham 5

Juniors 1

After a two week break, the meeting of Juniors and Stoneham was a much anticipated match. Storm Arwen made for an uncomfortable morning but the absence of six players was to have a much more detrimental effect on the team. On the plus side, good to see Sadie returning after a painful hip injury.

A poor start, struggling with basic control was to set the tone for a disappointing match for the team. They somehow held out for 20mins but continual loss of possession gifted Stoneham too many easy attacks and the team were rightly punished. Two goals in the space of 5 minutes putting the hosts fully in charge (2-0). A well crafted goal momentarily suggested an unlikely comeback, Megan playing a 1-2 with Summer, driving into the penalty box and finishing clinically (2-1). The team got to half time with just the goal behind.

HT 2-1

The second period was to be played against Stoneham and head on against storm Arwen. In truth, the half was spent for the most part pinned in their own half, unable to gain any sort of control and unable to play past a more combative opposition team on the day. A shot off the crossbar increased the lead (3-1), and possession was gifted for a forth, although a superb cross and headed finish resulted (4-1). With the team struggling to clear their area, a well struck shot completed the scoring (5-1).

Summary:

In football terms, a miserable day for the girls, individual struggles made for no team link up. The girls will have to take the hit and learn, they are more than capable but cannot expect to win games at this level with individual control and technique on the scale shown today. That being said, it is difficult to be too hard on a group that turns up with bare numbers leaving no room for rest bite. Congratulations to a Stoneham team that were worthy winners on the day.

FT. 5-1
