Home cup match

Millie keeps her sheets very clean!

Another stunning morning but a strong cross wind was bound to have an effect. Good to see Annabel returning from injury making the full squad available to play for a place in the Dorset cup final.

Another blistering start from the team gave another early goal, Carly converting Megan’s assist with little more than a minute on the clock (1-0). The hard ground and cross wind were a bad combination, forcing the play to one side of the pitch, this helped the Dorchester team to slightly contain what was a superior side. Having said that, the visitors were not here to make up the numbers, committing numbers when breaking and certainly not holding back in the tackle! Sophie was was unlucky, seeing her shot strike the cross bar before Meg put the team in the driving seat, converting from Kaitlyn’s astute pass (2-0). Kaitlyn’s turn to rattle the frame of the goal next before Bobbi struck the all important third goal from Megan’s set up (3-0).

HT 3-0

The cross wind did not relent in the second period and nor did an opponent that was wounded but still showing an enthusiasm to play. This was dampened slightly with Sophie adding a fourth goal from Charlotte’s assist (4-0). The team were playing the match and the weather conditions but now had a grip on both, a frustrated challenge in the goal area on Summer resumed in a penalty. The girls’ made it pretty clear who they wanted to take the kick, Summer doing as she was told and calmly converting (5-0). Kaitlyn again rattled the post from distance and Brooke tested the GK twice prior to Bobbi shooting over the stranded GK into the top of the net (6-0). A well deserved hat-trick goal followed for Bobbi from another Kaitlyn assist (7-0). Another tremendous defensive effort from the team, Eva, Mya, Annabel, Lauren , Abi and Faye all but nullifying any attacking intent. Millie was deserving of a third clean sheet in a row and made it a reality, reacting quickly to block when the visitors’ did eventually break through in the final play of the match. This goalkeeper again had very little to do for 69 minutes but showed unbelievable alertness to pull off the save.

Summery: On a very difficult morning the girls’ stayed patient and kept asking questions of a team that were keen the attack but were rarely allowed to. They probed , picked their passes and got their due rewards of a Dorset cup final date to go alongside a Hampshire final now on the horizon.

FT: 7-0

POM: Kaitlyn ( led by example)
