Juniors’ Cruise Back Into League Action

After the hype and excitement of the previous weeks cup final, the team were back in league action against a revitalised City Rubies team. Changes to the squad with Megan unavailable and Carly missing due to illness.

A Rubies team with nothing to lose gave as good as they got in the early stages, it was obvious from the kick off that the girls would have to be patient today. It took time but Juniors’ gradually started to carve out chances, Charlotte finding space on the RH side to find several telling crosses that Brooke was close to converting. It was Brooke that had the teams’ best chance of the half, breaking free and clipping the post, shots from Kaitlyn and Bobbi also narrowly missed the target.

The conditions did not help either team although slightly bettered Rubies, a tail wind aiding their attack. It still made for a good game, Juniors’ having to work for everything.

HT 0-0

The second period saw a greater shift in momentum, combinations of Eva, Mya, Annabel, Lauren and Abi being their usual measly selves in defence and now linking more often with their midfield. Sophie, Kaittlyn and Summer dominated the central areas, Charlotte and Faye the outlets in wide areas. Pressure was building, a Rubies team were now struggling to contain Juniors’ attacking play and a well struck shot from Faye was too hot to handle for the goalkeeper (1-0). Like buses, the second goal came, Bobbi has hit shots more cleanly but still saw her effort beat the GK (2-0). It was not totally one way traffic, Millie being more of a participant than a spectator, showing what safe hands she has. A lovely finish from Sophie, swivelling to guide a well hit shot into the LH corner of the goal wrapped up the scoring (3-0) and wrapped up a deserved victory.

Summary:

A competitive match that the team handled well, battling when they had to, especially in the first 35mins and calm and assured as the match went on.

FT 3-0.

POM: Summer (continual improvement, excellent decision making)
