Junction 12 no match for Juniors!
A lovely morning, heavy traffic and roadworks...a squad of 15 were back on the road again.
A sharp start from the girls’ put the hosts on the back foot from the start and they didn’t have to wait long for the breakthrough. 3mins in and Charlotte’s cross was deflected to birthday girl Meg to receive her first present of the weekend, tapping in gratefully (1-0) from close range. Considering the constant rotation of players the team looked confident and assured, a brilliant back to front move starting with Mya’s tackle and ending with Megan crossing for Charlotte to dispatch increased the lead (2-0). The girls’ comfortably took their lead into the half time break.
In truth it proved a comfortable match for the team and in the second half, the team never really needed to go through the gears. City Ladies had done their homework, Kaitlyn being shadowed my a man marker throughout but the team captain kept her head bringing other players more into the game. A popular goal scorer next, Brooke crossing for Lauren to knee volley home!!! (3-0). A final close range goal from Megan gave the birthday girl a brace for the day (4-0).
Summary:
The performance was made to look comfortable mainly due to a commanding defensive match from the girls, Eva and player of the match Mya nullifying attacks, aided by positive displays from Lucie, Annabel, Summer and Faye. More valuable game time for Abi in support of Sophie and Kaitlyn in midfield and another busy display from Carly left the home team chasing shadows for large parts of the match. A quieter game for Millie although everything she had to to, she did well!
Tougher games will lie ahead for Juniors’ but a dominant display deservedly gave them the points.
Now for the traffic again!!!
