Juniors second best to New Street!
Never easy to admit for a coach but the team were outplayed in all departments this morning. A very good New Street team dropped the fierce approach and played well, fully deserving the win.
A poor start from the girls’ gave the hosts an early goal, a very good goal created by the centre half and finished well (1-0). Juniors’ struggled to get a foothold but still managed to equalise, Kaitlyn’s free kick guided in by Brooke (1-1). The team tried hard to work the ball into wide areas but couldn’t produce the delivery required and they paid the price with second and third goals from defensive indecision (3-1).
HT 3-1
A much better start to the second half from the team but they couldn’t get the early goal to turn the game, the home GK equal to everything fired goalwards. Then the sucker punch of a goal against the run of play that effectively killed the game (4-1). After Kaitlyn and Brooke both saw efforts saved, Brooke did force a second goal from Bobbi’s pass (4-2). A third goal would have meant for an interesting finish but another mistake lead to another goal for the hosts (5-2).
FT 5-2.
Summary:
A strangely out of sorts Juniors’ were made to look worse by very polished team on the day. Where New Street were good, Juniors’ struggled. Indecisive and disjointed throughout the team, an unusual flat performance from this potentially talented bunch. The girls will have to dust themselves off, learn quickly and come back fighting with a run of tough games coming up and I’m sure this is exactly what they will do!
