Juniors Hit Stoneham Wall!
A lovely sunny morning for a much anticipated match. A Stoneham team were looking to bounce back after defeat to New Street and Juniors looking for a 3rd straight win.
With the away team picking ends, the visitors chose to go with a wind that had a significant bearing on the match.
A tight first half suggested that the first goal could be an important one, and so it proved, an awkward looping shot/cross deflecting to a Stoneham player to tap in (1-0). Within 5mins a deflected effort gave the visitors a second goal(2-0) and the home team a mountain to climb. Juniors’ were finding it difficult to break down a stubborn defence and were mainly restricted to shots from distance. The best chance came on the stroke of half time, Bobbi in her first game back seeing her goal bound effort cleared off the line.
HT 0-2
With the wind at their backs the team carried more of a threat in the second half but still found it difficult to create clear cut chances, player of the match Sophie seeming the most likely from distance. At the back, the team were solid with Millie saving well from the only real Stoneham chance of the half. For all the good possession in the wide areas, the team were unable to produce the quality to create goal scoring chances and it was Bobbi again that had the best opening, her shot just wide of the target. The girls’ persevered but the quality they have was not on show today.
FT 0-2
Summary.
In truth, probably the correct result. The team simply weren’t clinical enough when in good areas to break down a resolute defence. The team will regroup, learn from this and look forwards to the return match!
Congrats to Sophie on her POM performance today, well deserved!
