Juniors’ Nail Final Spot....Again.
A stunning morning for football saw a nearly full squad facing an unknown Portchester team, just Annabel missing due to injury.
The girls’ took time to settle but settle they did thanks to a stunning Sophie strike from Brooke’s assist (1-0). Faye’s crosses were a cause for concern to the visitors, the ball narrowly missing its target on a few occasions. After Bobbi smashed the cross bar with her first touch, Carly bagged a much needed goal, forcing a mistake and tapping home (2-0). A great move ended with an offside flag denying Carly a second, Charlotte hit the post before another sweetly struck goal from Sophie (3-0) increased the advantage. Shortly before the break, Sophie narrowly missed out on a hat-trick, a third shot from distance clattering the cross bar.
HT 3-0.
Things were cranked up in the second period. Charlotte set the tone with an early goal (4-0), Lauren ghosted in from the left hand side to slot her goal (5-0) and Megan cheered up with her first, a well hit shot that found the top corner (6-0). Even with the parity rule in full effect the girls were in no mood to let up again today, Brooke slotted from Kaitlyn’s assist (7-0) before Meg bagged her second and third, finding the same corner of the goal from Sophie and Abi’s well timed passes (9-0). With the final whistle approaching, Sophie and Megan provided the assists for captain Kaitlyn to claim a brace of goals (11-0). Another incredibly quiet game for Millie with Abi, Eva, Faye, Mya and Summer equal to and nullifying any sort of potential dangers. These girls were also the origin of a lot of the teams offensive plays.
Summary: another dominant team performance booked a Hampshire league cup final spot in two weeks time. With the team earning a place in both the HGFL and DCFA league cup finals a year ago but then cancelled due to Covid, the reward of a final spot this season seems richly deserved. Congratulations to all!
FT: 11-0.
POM: Sophie (‘the engine’ drove the team forwards and had her shooting boots on!).
