A good start to the day with all arriving at the park and ride car park on time...then the SHORT walk to the playing fields! ????
The team started well on a big, heavy pitch, the first 20mins played almost completely in the Winchester half. The hosts struggled with Juniors’ slick passing and it was Sophie’s clever pass that led to Megan’s opening goal with only 8mins played (1-0). Brilliant approach play forced an OG from Kaitlyn’s dangerous cross (2-0). Another clinical finish from Meg after good work from Carly was followed by a customary Brooke strike adding to her 5 star masterclass from the previous weekend (4-0). It was Carly that rounded off a fantastic half for the team with an instinctive lobbed finish over a stranded Winchester GK.
It was really job done by half time, the Parity Rule then took effect with extra players added by the opposition which the rule allows. The extra numbers led to a goal back after a strong run and finish from the hosts. Time for Lauren to step up and fully put the game to bed, firstly stroking home from Charlotte’s well worked assist (6-1) then claiming another from Megan’s blocked effort (7-1). A well deserved hat-trick from Megan (8-1) came from another Kaitlyn assist (an incredible run of 7 assists in two games from the teams’ captain). For the last quarter of the match, due to injuries to the opposition players, Juniors’ played with 9 players against 11, which the Parity Rule allows. The final goal came from Winchester, another strong run and finish.
All in all, another dominant display from the girls playing good constructive football on a heavy pitch. Although goal scorers’ tend to get mentioned, this team is much more than that. On the odd time the extra numbers caused problems, the desire to get back, tackle and regain control is ‘unteachable’, purely down to fantastic attitude.
Well done team!!!
