It was a lovely morning as the players and supporters traveled through the New Forest for their first friendly of the season against Hythe and Dibden U14.
With all the girls new to 11v11 and some fresh faces (Big welcome to Charlotte, Summer, Carly, Annabel and Faye) , the decision was made to play 4-3-3 for the first half and 4-4-2 for the second, over 4 quarters.
The game started well with some nice football, however, the opposition scored against the run of play quite early on. This was canceled out by Sophie only for the opposition to go ahead again just before the end of the first quarter. Sophie equalized again early in the second quarter, showing the forwards how to do it ??
Considering the vast possession advantage our girls were having, Hythe managed to go ahead again!! However, just before half time Charlotte received the ball on the right and put a great strike beyond their keeper... 3-3, Half time.
A change of system and movement of personnel made the third quarter a slightly scrappy affair, highlights being Sophie getting her hat-trick (much deserved) and Carly getting off the mark! 5-3.
The final quarter really showed our depth of talent and superior fitness as a 7 minute hat-trick from Kaitlyn and an assured finish from Carly sealed an impressive win. All the the girls really did perform well, stuck to their football against physically bigger girls, and should be very proud of themselves?? Bring on next week!!!!!
