vs West Haddon Albion Reserves
Home league match
Corby Locos welcomed West Haddon Albion Reserves who had been in pretty good form of late and were a place below in the table.
This was a must win game for both sides as the Top Three all had an easy run out (on paper) and were expected to win, so a slip up for either side today could prove costly.
Locos started the better of the two and controlled the pace of the game. Locos were getting into the final third with ease but seemed too casual when it came to threatening the opposition goal. It was almost as if they were scared of the West Haddon 18 yard box as nobody seemed to enter it. Countless times the wingers had the ball looking for a cross but nobody offered themselves as an option in the danger area. When Locos finally decided to fill the box with numbers, the breakthrough came ... some tidy play down the left flank and a quick ball in from Gaz to the near post was met by Marc who glanced a header in. 1-0 with 35 gone on the clock. Locos then eased their way to half time.
The game plan for the second half was to take some more risks and have some more shots at goal in hope of killing the game off.
A few chances created second half but the tempo of the game seemed to die off rapidly. As always changes were made to freshen things up.
West Haddon gave away a silly free kick in Lee Sinclair territory. The man of the moment stepped up and sent the ball in from 30 yards out. Maybe the keeper could have done better but take nothing away from the strike. 2-0.
West Haddon then woke up and began to create some chances of their own. Ryan Kelly made a couple of good saves to deny but then it was Locos turn to give away a silly free kick in a dangerous area. The ball was curled in and finished off with a tidy header to make it 2-1 with 20 still to play. To make things even more difficult, Allan Scott who had only been on the park around 5 minutes was shown a red card and deservedly so. He reacted to a routine foul and found it appropriate to volley the offending player right up the arse in front of the ref. Easy decision and an expensive lesson for Snodz. Half wit.
A couple of late scares, one of which seen the West Haddon striker hit the post with a chance that was probably harder to miss, but Locos hung on for a crucial win. Final Score 2-1.
MOM - Dean Clark. Covered every blade of grass and was beautiful at linking the midfield to attack.
A tough encounter due to a lack of desire at times and a silly moment from an experienced player.
3 points to stay in the mix with the top three tho!
