Home league match

The first 45 minutes seen both teams roll their sleeves up and battle hard. The style wasnt pretty from either side but the graft was at a high level. No clear cut chances were created. Pegasus pressed forward a lot more than Gretton, but failed to add the quality to the final stage of their build up play. The weather was hot and the pitch was dry which took a lot out of each team going into the break. HT 0-0. Second Half, like so many times this season, Pegasus found an extra couple of gears and started brightly. It wasnt enough to break down a tough Gretton back line who remained organized in the opening quarter of the second half. As the game entered the hour mark, the first goal finally arrived for Pegasus, a quick throw in from Skinner managed to find Sean Porch, who played a one - two with Thomo to create some space in the final third, after hesitating slightly, Sean then unleashed a hard low strike from 20 yards that found its way into the bottom left corner to make it 1-0. Brendan was then introduced into the game for Ben to add a bit more bite in the attack. The goal seemd to hurt Gretton as 5 minutes later a second goal for Pegasus was added. A cross into the box was headered outside the area by Skinner which bounced in the path of Ants Underwood who unleashed a volley which found its way into the same bottom left corner. Andy Silley then replaced Sean Porch to keep the energy and pace high, Gaz McBlain also came on the pitch to replace Steven Thain in the holding role to keep the midfield fresh and organized. Gretton struggled to gather any momentum during the next 10 minutes, the final two changes were then made. Andy Kyle made an appearance after being out for a couple of months with a groin injury replacing Thomo in the frontline and Snodz replaced Ryan Kelly at the back who had performed superbly by keeping Grettons main outlet quiet all game. Pegasus had plenty left in the tank to eliminate any of Gretton's attempts to pull a goal back and the score finished 2-0 to Pegasus. A huge win which made Pegasus Reserves League Champions. A huge acheivement for everyone involved with the club, completing a League and Cup double. A 10 out of 10 display from everyone for todays game was the reason we were able to see the game out relatively comfortable. All the lads knocked down the last hurdle that was put in their way, just like they have all season.

MOM - As stated, everyone on the park stuck to their task and uted it perfectly but Ants Underwood edges it for the second week running. Yet another sublime performance in the centre of the park. He chased every loose ball down and was able to get on the score sheet in spectacular style. Roll on next week when we lift the League Trophy!!!
