Away league match

The first period of the game, Pegasus Reserves failed to get going and struggled as a result of this. Gretton Reserves began much brighter and were the better team for the whole first 45 minutes. They were first to every ball and first to every second ball as well. Despite the poor start, the Pegasus defence remained stubborn and dealt with most things Gretton were throwing at them. This was until Gretton scored a header from the corner around the 35 minute mark. This was always going to happen given the amount of corners and silly free kicks in important areas that Pegasus were conceding. 1-0 HT.

Second Half a change was made immediately, Szabi replacing Daniel to inject a lot more pace up top. This was visible right from the off as Szabi made his usual powering runs down the flank, making it difficult for the Gretton defence to cope with. There was a reward 10 minutes into the half as Thomo slooted the ball away to make it 1-1. This gave Pegasus a much needed lift and more pressure was added. Further changes were made and for the second time in two matches, Andy Silley come off the bench to grab an important goal - weaving past the Gretton backline and smashing the ball in the net. Pegasus then controlled the next period of the game, right up until the 85th minute when nerves started to set in. Silly errors were made, failing to show composure on the ball and sloppily giving it away to Gretton, failing to convert any of the 4/5 good chances that were created late on. Gretton capitalized on Pegasus' failure to see the game out and scored in the last minute with a clever lob over stand-in GK Thainy. Final score 2-2.

A massive shame that Pegasus Reserves couldnt follow up their recent Cup Final win, with another, against the same opposition. A win would have been a massive step to securing the League Four title, but unfortunatlely, sloppy play has cost them this chance. They still remain top of the table but the games now come thick and fast and they need to make sure 100% effort is given to ensure no more slip ups like this occur. MOM today was Daniel McBlain, solid from minute one and showed a great display of fitness up and down the left hand flank all game.
