A week where a massive response and characters were very much needed for Pegasus Reserves, proved to be missing from the opening period of the game. A young and hungry Stripmills team stood in their way and deservedly raced into a 0-3 lead after a horror show all over the park. Pegasus couldnt match the desire and efforts of Stripmills and paid the price. Slight improvement was made in the last 10 minutes of the first half but nothing materialised. HT 0-3.
Second Half some changes were made. Scott Brady off for Geo Brown who made his debut for Peg at the ripe old age of 43. Also, Andy Silley came into the centre of the park for Arron McGinty who had to go home. This spiced things up a little but the cutting edge still wasnt there. The final 2 changes followed a dull period which seen Snodz replace Hoggy at centre back and Hammell shifting to left back for Danny McBlain. Shortly after, Pegasus won a free kick on the edge of the Stripmills box and this was drilled home by Geo Brown to mark his debut with a well deserved goal. The high fives had barely finished before Stripmills added a 4th and put the sharp knife into the blunt hearts of Pegasus. The game was clearly over but not before Colin Thow added a second for Pegasus late on with a decent finish. Full Time Score 2-4.
Minor problems have now become serious problems for the Reserve team. Off-field issues have been somewhat taken care of, now the on-field problems need to be addressed and rectified ASAP. It's certainy clear that a Promotion push is all but over after only 8 games in, but a respectable finish can still be acheived if people want to make the effort. We need to accept that we will lose players to the first team, we have also lost players permanently as of today. Some with good reason, but one other player that can only be described as a spineless coward. When the going gets tough like this, we need characters to take us forward, not immature players who jump ship every time things arent going their way. Good riddance and we will be better off without him.
Credit to Stripmills, we definitely underestimated them as a team and they showed that graft and heart win you football games. A deserved win if ever i have seen one.
MOM today was Geroge Brown. Signed on yesterday to bring a bit of experience and stability to the crop and in 45 minutes he certainly done all that. Made clever moves, linked up well with the players around him and his free kick was very good.
Dare we say roll on next week?
