Home friendly match
Newmills Reserves was our 2nd Pre Season Friendly and it certainly didn't disappoint as they brought a good performance with a tough and hard game
From the first whistle the Colts were on the front foot as within 10 mins they had 3 good chances that fell to Robb, Kelly and Kilpatrick all went on target but were neatly saved by the Newmills Keeper, who to be fair was a large bloke BUT he turned out to maybe end to be Newmills best player of the nite.
The colts didn't have all there own way as Newmills was trying hard to hit back and nearly did after a defensive mistake after 15 mins but luckily this went high and wide.
After 26 mins Drew Kelly put the colts into the lead with a neat goal after a great cross from Caleb Robb in the middle of the park.
CYFC 1-0 Newmills.
This then made the game even tighter in midfield as Nando and Newmills no 5 was having a good battle and neither was giving an inch.
That was the best of the first half and the colt came in front 1-0.
The 2nd half started as the first finished with both teams giving no 50/50 ball up and th tackles were clean, hard and fair.
Drew Kelly then extended the colts lead after 67mins when he was the end of the class cross from debutant Barrie Kelly. Barrie crossed front he right, drew took a touch and buries the ball into the back of the net to make it CYFC 2-0 Newmills.
This then got Newmills backs up and they were back in it after 76mins with a very good goal, the colts were unable to clear the ball after a goal mouth scramble and the ball came out to the edge of the box and the Newmills striker hit a sweet right footer into the net. CYFC 2-1 Newmills.
Thankfully the Colts held out to the end for a nice win but the Newmills team was a very worthy opponent and it was evident at the end the 2 teams appreciation of each other with plenty of shaking hands in a very entertaining hard fought game.
