In a game where we were always going up against it, the lads started the game off with a strong side out to face the opposition.
The game kicked off and the match was quickly becoming intense with both sides creating chances. Playing some good football in the middle, we had a golden opportunity to score early on in the first half, passing the ball across the box, only for it to bobble in front of Owen, sending it over the bar. With the ball back in play, the opposition were quick to counter, getting the ball around the defence as the striker was one on one against the still injured, Dan Lumley in goal, only to be brought down in the box by Jack James for a penalty, which saw Tanfield take the lead.
The game progressed but our strikers and midfielders were constantly getting caught with the ball at their feet, and losing us possession, which quickly led to our downfall across the pitch as a - once again - lack of passes, and simple balls killed our momentum.
After losing the ball up the pitch, Tanfield were on the attack, bombing down the left wing, crossing it in for a simple clearance for Andy Gowland, only for him to completely miss the ball as Tanfield capitalized and we went down by two.
As the game pressed on we came back into it, creating chances and passing the ball well around the park, and after a foul in midfield, twenty five yards from goal, up stepped Owen Lee with an UNBELIEVEABLE strike, straight into the top right bin.
With this spark of hope, we pressed on and created some fair few chances, looking like we could get back into this game. Our beliefs were shattered however as an early corner in the second half fell to an unmarked player, who fired the ball in at the near post.
From here, we found ourselves on the back foot for most of the second half, getting completely outnumbered at the back as the defence began to tire. We held them off for as long as possible, but when a long ball flew overhead, and our keeper failed to rush the ball, the attacker simply took his touch and fired in the fourth for a final score of 1-4 to Tanfield, eliminating us from the cup.
