Lush, warm weather, and a perfect pitch for today's game. Yet that was all that was good about today's performance as we began with merely twelve players out of a possible thirty plus. Not to mention half of our boys who actually showed are still injured. Meanwhile, Blackfyne showed up with enough players for a full game between themselves, so it wasn't looking good for us from the start.

The game kicked off and within the first few minutes we were already on the back-foot, with defence and midfield not sticking with their man as Blackfyne squared the ball across the goal for a simple tap-in at the back. Not a great start.

The game continued and the opposition dominated possession, showing us why they were the better team as we could do nothing but defend. However, we defended well in the first half, despite our flaws, our back four really put the graft in to keep the opposition at bay, with a few good saves from Andy Gowland back between the sticks, at one point darting off his line and attacking the ball all the way up to the halfway line, like the Monk himself.

The game continued and Blackfyne continued to overload our fullbacks with players bombing towards them. But failed to score as Trev made a lovely block on the line to deny the opposition. The second goal came from a nice pass through our defence only to be slotted into the bottom corner.

Come the second half we fell quiet, playing silent football as we battled in the middle for the possession, but with too many bad passes, it was only a matter of time before Blackfyne struck again. Coming from a throw in on the right hand side, the striker nabbed the ball from our defence, and lobbed the ball over the back-tracking goalkeeper to make it 3-0.

With the late arrival of Robbie Holmes and birthday lad Jack Wilkes, we thought we could at least pull one back in the remaining twenty minutes of play, but it wasn't to be. Despite adding a bit more to the struggling squad, it wasn't long before a long pass through the defence led to a one on one scenario, where the attacker simply took the ball past the keeper and slotted it into an empty net to secure the 4-0 victory.

Poor show from the lads who failed to turn up today. With any luck (or by some kind of miracle) we can put things right in our next game.
