Home league match

The second league game of the season saw Colchester Villa use their third keeper for 2019/20 season, after Josh just didn’t turn up. (Let the boys down there !)

John Lyons stepped in between the sticks for the arrival of a strong Stanway side after their 9-2 win from the previous Sunday. Well done Mr Lyons.

After the referee turning up and leading the teams onto the pitch Colchester Villa started strong. Some good early runs from the front two ably assisted by Wakey & Scott.

Presure led to an early penalty awarded to the Blues after just 4 minutes. Sun was high and must have been in Brooksies eyes as he blasted wide !!!!!

The pressure continued and the blues took the lead … Marcus doing the hard work and Brooksie nicking it off his toe to slot in the first.

As the half progressed Stanway played their way into it, but a solid back four of Jam, Joe, Joel & H absorbed any pressure and protected John in goal. However, when called on the keeper was cat like, until a defensive mix up and Stanway equalised with one of their first penetrating attacks.

A few tactical changes at half time to freshen up the legs saw villa regain control and score the team goal of the season ….. so far. Some good interchanges down the right. An unselfish pull back from Joe and Brooksie doesn’t miss from 6 yards out. 2-1.

Col Villa started to dominate – A great cross from Stu saw Scot step inside and slot past the Stanway keeper to make it 3.

Sudesh moving into midfield and Dom dropped back to sweeper, freeing up Jack to score a brace as the half drew to an end.

Making the final score 5-1 but John was called into action one last time tipping the ball over the bar as the game drew to a close.

Well done chaps a good team performance with everyone playing their part.

A tough test today but a tougher one on paper next week so let’s see everyone at training as I feel the team still has a few gears to go up.
