vs Old Bemrosians First

Away league match

Old Bemrosians 1-3 Codnor Athletic Fc

(Bradford x2, Mcdowell)

A comprehensive win for Codnor in the final game of the season and in Michael Fielding’s retirement game. Codnor started the game very well, playing some excellent football and making things hard for Old Bemrosians who couldn’t get near them. Codnor got caught on the counter and the Old Bemrosians forward got in behind and slotted past Bestwick after an initial good save. Codnor struggled for the next 10 to get back into the game, but soon found their way back into it. A ball out wide was picked up by Mcdowell who whipped the ball perfectly onto the foot of Bradford who volleyed home to equalise.

Codnor should’ve been ahead moments later when a corner was flicked back across goal and Jamie Cutts could only divert the effort onto the post from a yard out.

Half Time

Old Bemrosians 1-1 Codnor Athletic Fc

Codnor started the second half as they started the first with possession based football, playing it about and making Bemrosians work hard to get the ball. Codnor soon went ahead, a long throw from Parkin was headed into the net from Bradford for his 2nd of the day.

Instantly Codnor made it 3-1, some good work from Bradford to play in Mcdowell to get his 29th goal of the season with a smart finish.

Codnor soon brought Gough off the bench who could’ve bagged a hat trick, a header narrowly went wide, a shocking miss from 4 yards and another effort where he felt he was fouled in the area.

Codnor could’ve had 10+ goals if the shooting boots where on but it’s a major improvement on other weeks. Everyone played well and deserved the win against the team that knocked us out of the semi final.

Michael Fielding captained the side in his last Sunday league appearance after being at the club for 8 years and deciding to hang up his boots at the age of 41. He had a fantastic game and rightly got man of the match, before getting a good send off when he was subbed on the 90th minute.

The season has come to an end and now Codnor’s challenge is off the pitch with recruitment of a few players and a busy pre season schedule to get players in shape for the 2022/23 season where we feel we could have a successful season
