vs Wyrley Juniors Reserves
Away league match
Claregate were away to Wyrley Juniors Reserves this afternoon and left with all 3 points and 5 straight league wins after a comfortable 5-0 win.
The 1st half saw Claregate use the ball well and have most of the possession with some lovely passing moves. The opening goal didn't arrive until the 22nd minute when Carlo Bandiera won the ball 40 yards out on the left, cut inside and play a defence splitting pass through to winger Kane Lewis who swept home a calm finish inside the far post with his left foot. Despite having the majority of the play and creating chances, the score remained 1-0 going into half time.
Half time saw a reshuffle, formation change and 2 subs - Jon Wilson on for Daniel Burns and Russell West on for Rodney "Trotter" Williams.
Claregate were straight out of the blocks with a bang on 46 minutes when Danny Jones spotted the run of Si "Stokesy" Stokes and played a through ball, flicked on by Russell West then finished with ease by Stokesy inside the far post from 14 yards to make it 2-0.
Claregate added a 3rd on 56 minutes when Nathan Ratcliffe's pass split the defence in two for Russell West to run onto, round the keeper and slot home. Russell almost bagged his 2nd on 62 minutes when his shot hit the post.
On 85 minutes, keeper Craig Beale went route one for Russell West to round his defender and power his finish past the keeper for his 2nd and Claregate's 4th.
Jon Wilson rounded off the scoring on 87 minutes after Danny Jones stormed into the box and squared the perfect pass for Jon to finish with power and accuracy with his left from 12 yards.
Other sub used was Josh Hodson on for Stokesy.
A win that saw Claregate rarely out of 2nd gear. A controlled and composed performance that could have maybe brought more goals.
Man of the match today went to Carlo Bandiera who was relentless defensively but also played intelligent football going forward. Mentions though to Danny Jones and Nathan Ratcliffe who both gave solid performances and Russell West who made a big impact in the 2nd half.
