CPR Win In Miserable Conditions Against Shere Punjab

<p>Today's Lester Charity Cup tie at home to Shere Punjab Jacks was taken all the way to a dramatic penalty shoutout following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes.<p>Shere Punjab opened the scoring on 20 minutes with a shot from distance in a half that saw the visitors mostly dominate the game.<p>The 2nd half saw a much improved and more determined Claregate battle back.<p>Chances were being created but a combination of poor finishing and good goalkeeping kept the score at 1-0.<p>That was up until the 77th minute when Rodney "Trotter" Williams won the ball 25 yards from goal to turn and drive a thunderous effort into the bottom corner to bring the scores level.<p>The final 10 minutes were frantic with chances at both ends but after 90 minutes, the tie went to penalties.<p>Shere Punjab won the toss and opted to go first.<p>SP scored their first effort but skipper Tom Banks levelled.<p>SP also scored their 2nd effort but Nathan Garratt again levelled things.<p>SP's 3rd effort was the cue for keeper Lee Witherford to confidently save and Trotter converted Claregate's 3rd to take a shootout lead.<p>SP's 4th effort was shut out again by keeper Lee Witherford with a stunning save low to his right and Sam "Woppy" Wapshott stepped up to finish with ease to send Claregate into the next round.<p>Stand out performances today from Kev Haughton, Marc Thomas, Tom Banks and penalty shootout hero Lee Witherford but fullback Josh Hodson took the man of the match award for a great shift.<p>Subs used, Ste Cater on for Andrae Brown.<p>Unsused sub Lee Clutterbuck.<p>That rounds off the action for 2016, league action back on Sunday 8th January.
