On 23 minutes, SP hit back with their first goal after Claregate failed to clear a freekick leaving their forward to tap in following a goal mouth scramble. Andy Arnold this time turned provider on the stroke of half time with another freekick that was whipped into the far post for Nathan Garratt to head home.
The second half saw SP put more pressure on Claregate and won a penalty on 55 minutes. Lee Witherford held his nerve and saved the resulting spot kick in his first game back following a pre season injury. On 74 minutes, substitute Kev Haughton slipped a perfectly weighted through ball into the path of Andy Arnold who tucked his finish inside the near post to wrap up his hattrick. On 80 minutes SP were awarded their 2nd penalty of the game, this time they converted it to a goal to bring the score to 4-2. Claregate weren't finished with their goal action, on 86 minutes Sam "Woppy" Wapshott pinged a 60 yard pass into the path of Prince Sarpong who showed great skill with his control and finished from 25 yards into the top corner.
On the whole, a scrappy game on a poor pitch and Claregate made hard work of the win but 3 points were secured. Some stand out performances from Andy Arnold, Jay Rumbold's high intensity, Dale Elliott's reassuring presence at the back but man of the match went to Woppy for a fine range of passing displayed throughout the game. Subs used, Adam Goode on for debutant Lee Battle, Kev Haughton on for Josh Hodson and Danny Rai on for Jay Rumbold. Bookings to both Woppy and Nathan Garratt.
