vs Sandwell Action
Away cup match
Claregate bounced back from last week's defeat with a performance of real quality and a 4-1 away win over Sandwell Action.
Claregate started the match on the front foot and a high tempo which set the tone for the whole game. It didn't take long to be rewarded for the work rate when SI Stokes was first to reacted to a loose ball following poor control from a defender, Stokesy struck his effort first time into an empty net with the keeper out of position on 6 minutes. 0-1.
On 31 minutes a Kane Lewis corner was delivered to the far post where captain Danny Jones was on hand to stab a finish into the bottom corner from 4 yards. 0-2 at half time but in truth it could have been more were it not for some outstanding goalkeeping from the Sandwell number 1.
A slower start to the 2nd half from Claregate saw a more positive 10 minute spell for Sandwell but they rarely troubled a frugal Claregate defence.
On 64 minutes Kane Lewis hit Sandwell on the break and drilled a cross field pass into the path of Stokesy who beat the outrushing keeper and walked it into an empty net. 0-3.
On 81 minutes Sandwell pulled one back via an unfortunate Claregate own goal - we'll leave that there! 1-3.
Kyle Matthews saved the best for last on 86 minutes after running on to a through ball from Stokesy and let an absolute screamer rip into the top corner from a tight angle. 1-4.
Subs involved were Josh Hodson and Mitch Kerry.
A performance full of hard work, good football and persistence. Man of the match today went to captain Danny Jones, leading by example with a superb all round display but nothing taken away from the rest of the lads who were equally as impressive.
