Away league match
Claregate made it 4 league wins in a row today in goal crazy game away at Penn Rovers.
With both keepers out injured, Tom Banks stepped in, a 1st start for Nicolai Parfeni and a debut for Nathan Ratcliffe.
Penn Rovers took the lead inside 60 seconds after they made the most of a defensive mix up then added a 2nd on 21 minutes. Si Stokes tricked his way into the Penn area on 24 minutes and got brought down with Daniel "Burnzy" Burns converting the penalty with an emphatic finish. Penn responded on 28 minutes with another goal to go 3-1 up. On 41 minutes Andy Arnold was fouled after beating his man in the area and Burnzy again finished from the spot. Rodney "Trotter" Williams almost brought the scores level before half time with a shot from distance that thundered off the bar. Score at half time was 3-2 to Penn. Carlo Bandiera and John Goodwin entered the fray at half time for Josh Hodson and Nicolai Parfeni respectively with Marc Thomas and Nathan Ratcliffe swapping positions.
Claregate responded well to half time instructions and started on the front foot with Kane Lewis crossing to Si Stokes for a volley at the far post to make it 3-3 on 46 minutes. Penn responded with their 4th goal on 48 minutes and added a 5th on 59 minutes to take the score to 5-3. Claregate showed real determination though and scored 3 in the space of 8 minutes starting with Trotter on 62 minutes after racing onto a through ball from Andy Arnold and finishing from 10 yards. That goal was followed with another a minute later when Si Stokes played in Andy Arnold who rounded the keeper to make the scoreline 5-5. The pick of the goals came on 70 minutes when Carlo Bandiera cut inside from the left and unleashed a screamer into the top corner from 25 yards. Trotter finished off the scoring on 81 minutes when he was quick to react to a John Goodwin through ball down the left, cut inside the box and slotted a finish inside the far post. Final score 7-5.
A real goal fest today but Claregate impressed after twice going 2 goals behind. Man of the match today went to debutant Nathan Ratcliffe who put in a solid display but special mentions to Burnzy, Trotter and Kev Haughton who played equally as well.
Next week yet another away game against Wyrley Juniors Reserves.
