Home cup match
Today's home tie against Old Cross Athletic ended in a 6-0 victory for Claregate in an eventful game.
? Claregate were quick out of the blocks with a goal in the 1st minute. Andy Arnold was first to react to a cleared Claregate corner and whipped a ball over to Nathan Garratt at the far post who controlled with his knee then volleyed home. 1-0.
? On 30 minutes Daniel "Burnzy" Burns was quick to spot Kyle Matthews lurking just outside the 18 yard box and delivered a pin point corner ball to Kyle who had time to control and stroke a left footed effort past a stranded keeper. 2-0.
Half time score was 2-0 but 2 big decisions from the referee saw Old Cross suffer 2 red cards during the half. The first was 2 yellows for dissent and continued dissent, the other saw their keeper given marching orders after sprinting out of his box to clatter Nathan Ratcliffe who was clean through on goal.
? Another quality Burnzy corner on 68 minutes saw sub Si "Stokesy" Stokes flick on a header to Marc "Tommo" Thomas to drive home from 6 yards. 3-0.
? Another sub making an impact; Josh Hodson whips a cross over from the left on 77 minutes only for an Old Cross defender to nod into his own net. 4-0.
? 80 minutes in and Rodney "Trotter" Wiliams sets Kane Lewis free on the left with Kane delivering an accurate cross to the far post where Stokesy leapt like a salmon and headed neatly to make it 5-0.
? Another sub in in the action, Jon Wilson taps home the final goal of the game from 2 yards following a run and cross from Trotter.
Overall a solid display against a gutsy 9 man Old Cross Athletic. Athough the red cards no doubt changed the game, Claregate still looked comfortable at 11v11.
Man of the match today went to Andy Arnold for a strong midfield display where he was able to showcase his passing range. Mentions to Nathan Ratcliffe and Trotter too for equally superb displays.
As always thanks to our sponsors.
