Claregate kicked off 2018 in style this afternoon with a 6-0 win over AFC Springfield in the Lester Charity Cup to go through to the quarter finals.
It took only 6 minutes for Claregate to break the deadlock when Rodney "Trotter" Williams crossed from the left for Kane Lewis to volley home, 1-0.
Ben Bickley extended the lead on 18 minutes with an absolute belter from 20 yards after Carlo Bandiera's pass. 2-0
On 27 minutes, Trotter cut inside and found Jon Wilson with a pass, Jon held the ball up well then played in Trotter for a cool finish. 3-0 at half time.
Claregate were quick out of the blocks in the 2nd half and extended the lead to 4-0 on 47 minutes when Kane Lewis repaid Trotter's 1st half assist with a ball across the box for Trotter to finish in off the bar.
Substitutes on 55 minutes saw Nathan Ratcliffe and Si Stokes on for John Goodwin and Kane Lewis followed by Josh Hodson on for Andrae Brown on 62 minutes.
Claregate went 5-0 up on 79 minutes when Daniel "Burnzy" Burns took advantage of slow organisation as he whipped in a corner for skipper Danny Jones to head home.
Si Stokes rounded off the scoring on 85 minutes with a well placed drive after being played in by Trotter.
After 4 weeks out, an impressive team performance with our opponents failing to register a single shot on goal. A controlled and composed perfomance that could have produced more goals. Man of the match went to Trotter for an attacking masterclass with 2 goals and 2 assists.
