The Commoners started 2022 with a cup classic, booking their place in the London Junior Cup quarter-finals.
McManus opened the scoring early on, slotting in from a post-throw scramble. The game then settled down with CCFC on top, Wallis heading in to give us our second. Just before half-time the ref decided to make the game interesting by awarding the strangest penalty ever seen, with NW Galacticos converting from the spot as we headed down the tunnel 2-1.
Second half Galacticos started stronger and put on the pressure, but a great counter-attack unfolded as Stanton picked out Smith on the wing, who sent the ball forward to Birch for his first of the game to restore the two goal cushion. The Purple Army started to shift into another gear to see the game out, and well and truly finished the game off when a long ball from McManus was knocked in by Birch for his second of the game, with Smith also coming close a few moments later.
A huge win on a long, long away trip for the Commoners as we march on into the quarter-finals.
