Away league match

With a covid outbreak hitting the host’s back in November this was the rearranged fixture. Over have had a mixed bag of results with all their games being close and representing a real challenge for the Eagles. Eagles were also without the creative flair of their Greek magician Sortirus who was called up for an international fixture.

A slightly later than usual kick off on a pitch that was in good condition although the Eagles management team had raised concerns around the length of the grass earlier in the week.

‘It is slightly frustrating, teams know how dangerous we are and how we move the ball around. To leave the grass this long reminds me of the John Beck days at Cambridge United. But look I trust my boys and will make it work.’ Ian Dixon pre match

With a reduced squad, to start with Dixon has gone with a 1-1-2 formation. The mighty Mathew Jones in between the sticks. Tam as the rock in defence, Alex cooper in the floating role and Oscar and Dylan to drive the attack. Freddie primed and ready to go starts on the bench the thought being to utilise his press and energy into quarter two.

In the first two quarters the Eagles were at their majestic best. The passing at times was out of this world. Alex Cooper in particular having arguable his best half of the season. Chants of are you Pirlo in disguise being chanted as the half time whistle sounded. An impressive first half hatrick from Oscar in quarter 1 and two by Dylan in quarter 2 saw the visitors 5 up before a freak bounce caught out the unlucky Mathew in goal who had been forced in to some early saves in the first half. He bounced back with some fantastic distribution with his kicks. Tam or as coach ball calls Harry Maguire was solid with great anticipation and reading of the game keeping the fast and dangerous Over at bay. Quarter 2 saw Freddie come in and replace Tam in the unusual position of defender. Freddie had played their and impressed earlier in the season. His speed, energy and dogged tackling particularly impressive.

Second half Eagles having built a comfortable lead eased back a little with Dixon and Ball on the side screaming for them to battle to the end. One more for the hosts who had a couple of very good players and another two for Oscar finishing with 5 and his 43rd of the season and 1 more for Dylan his 45th saw the game end 7-2.

The game not done though with a bonus quarter. Oscar back in goal with Freddie and tam leading the attack and Mathew on the right. A great and well deserved goal by Alex who also had 5 assists and a MOM performance before a worldly goal of the game by Dylan.

9-2 the final score an impressive win. Some great passing, some great defending against a side who never gave up. Well done Eagles one more to go and 100% in league season 1.
