Home league match
We faced a Molesey Sunday side that had got the better of us in preseason and was looking for revenge. The opening 20 minutes was all Cheam with our midfield 3 pulling the strings in the middle of the park and dominating the game.
The breakthrough come when Joe Wells picked up the ball from 25 yards and hit the top corner with a wonder striker and early goal of the season contender. It was the least we deserved for the early dominant display.
The early goal kicked Molesey into gear and a couple of minutes after they equalised. A stray ball was chased down by Molesey who was pushed wide by Dave initially but the ball was passed into the box and tucked home.
The remainder of the half had a reinvigorated Molesey side who tried to pummel us with long throws, corners and crosses galore but we stood firm.
Second half began and we found ourselves mostly on top but with Molesey trying to counter. We had a good chance from a corner which Tickle could only head over but the main talking point was a referee call that ruled out a Molesey goal. An initial foul was given by the ref who blew his whistle yet tried to play on with Molesey through down the left and crossed in to score. As the whistle was blown, the referee had to bring play back to Moleseys dismay.
The winner come from a quick counter when Luke Draper set Matt Tickle away on the right and with the keeper stuck in no mans land, he slotted the ball around him and into the net to give us the lead.
Late set pieces threatened the lead but we saw the game out much to anger of the number 18 for Molesey who was shouting that we “Cheaters” for 20 minutes straight.
