Away cup match

Casuals & Pelham crashed out of the county cup after losing 6-4 away at Turnford Athletic! After a tough game the week before Pelham had a whole new look squad after giving some players a much needed rest. Colin Hedges made his return from injury, Charlie Daniels his first appearance back for the club as well as Nathan Thomas and Marc Eagle getting a run out at the back with Pelham potentially needing some more defensive cover after Adam Notleys Injury last weekend. With 8 changes being made from the weekend before Pelham started the slower of the 2 teams and went 1-0 down rather quickly. 1-0 turned into 2-0 after 10 minutes and Pelhams slow start means they were up against it. Pelham pulled me back from an indirect freekick as Jamie Richards layed the ball off to Rob Parrish who picked his spot and lashed it into the net, 2-1. Pelham thought they were even at 2-2 as a Jamie Richards crossed was put in by Shane Tubridy, only for the ref to blow up and book Tubridy for putting the ball in the net with his hand. However Tubridy did strike next and after a set up from Parrish he volleyed the ball into the net, 2-2. However Pelham soon found themselves behind again as Turnford hit on the counter attack, making it 3-2 to the home side. That was how it stayed at the half and the game was still in the balance with only one goal in it. Pelham started slow again in the second half and found themselves two goals behind again as Turnford struck next, 4-2. Pelham knew they had to get the next goal and they did just that, a great run down the left from Steve Callan saw him get to the by line and cut the ball back for Charlie Daniels who stroked the ball home, 4-3. However Pelhams fightback didn't last too long and Turnford made it 5-3 not long after. Pelham put up a fight again and Jamie Richards struck a freekick direct off the post and in to make it 5-4. However once again just as it looked like Pelham had a chance to get back into it they conceded another making it 6-4. A late penalty shout for a foul on Rob Parrish was bizzarely waved away and with that Pelham ran out of time for yet another fightback, losing 6-4 and crashing out of the county cup. Result didn't matter too much today boys but the performance always does, and unfortunately it wasn't a great performance. Let's hope this is a bit of a wake up call and we don't get complacent in the league.
