vs SC Birchanger Reserves FC

Home friendly match

Casuals and Pelham lined up for their first game in 5 weeks in a home friendly against SC Birchanger Reserves. Pelham started very slowly and laboured and looked like they had been out of action for a while. Birchanger immediately took control of possession and created the first chsnces of the game. Pelham were caught out by a couple of long balls over the top with Birchanger nearly breaking the deadlock on two occassions. That ball over the top continued to be on for the away side and they took full advantage of it. The Birchanger striker got in behind and finished well, 1-0 to the visitors. Birchanger continued to impress and again went close with other chances, striking the ball just wide on a couple of occassions and hitting the post via a deflection on another. However at 1-0 Pelham were well and truly still in it, they just needed to wake up and start playing. A rare piece of simple football from the home side resulted in the equaliser. Colin Hedges took the ball out from the back and played a couple of one-two's the last being with Tim Shaw who put him in behind, with Col finishing the move off perfectly, 1-1. Pelham started to get into the game more after that goal, but 1-1 is how it would stay at the half. Pelham addressed their problems at the half and got on top of them at the start of the second. They restricted SC Birchanger to limited chances in the second half, but couldn't really create any real opportunities of their own. The pitch in the second half started to cut up and the game became rather scrappy, but Pelham lacked that last through ball in the final third and lacked that final bit of edge. The game ended 1-1 but importantly for Pelham they got in some much needed minutes and a few players back from injury.
