Away cup match

Casuals and Pelham crashed out of the league cup ending their cup runs for this season on all three fronts. Pelhams attention now turns to the league with that now being the only competition they can win. Pelham came off the back of a poor performance but vital win last Sunday against Birchwood Rangers. They needed a much better performance this time round to beat an inform Hatfield Heath side. Both teams started fairly evenly and chances were limited in the first 15 minutes with once again the conditions not helping. It was looking like it was going to be a tight game with two evenly matched sides involved. However eventually around the 25 minute Mark Hatfield Heath took the lead. A throw in was wrongly awarded to the home side which was taken quickly after Pelham had turned away in order to set up for their own throw in. Within two passes the ball was played across the box and tapped in at the back post by the Heath winger, 1-0 to the home side with Pelhams hard work being wrongly undone. Pelham lost their heads after that and started to get on the refs back instead of playing their own game. Heath the started to take control of proceedings and Pelham needed to calm themselves down and get themselves back in the game. That opportunity of getting back in the name arrived just before the half as Tim Shaw struck a brilliant direct freekick around the wall and into the top corner, 1-1. That's how it stayed at the half and it was probably reflected the first half. Pelham were still being drawn into a poor game by getting wound up by the opposition and refs decisions and needed to forget both those factors and focus on themselves. They started the second half in that manner but once again lost their way and got drawn into their opponents game. They then conceded their second goal of the game as Heath took the lead again as some poor marking on a corner saw someone's man get away from them and tap in unmarked at the back stick, 2-1. Pelham almost struck back instantly through Lee Cuddeford straight from kick off but his effort went over the bar. That should have boosted Pelham but that was as close as they would get in the second half to getting back into it. Once again they got drawn into a crap game and Pelhams own game and concentration went out the window because of it. Heath struck again from a direct freekick to make it 3-1 and then killed the game off with 5 minutes left from the penalty spot to make it 4-1. A couple of bookings for either side were the only other thing of note in the game, and Pelham went crashing out of their final cup for this season. Attention now turns to the league and Pelham have to start focusing on their own game and stop worrying about others, as it feels like a long time since a real decent solid performance has been put in.
