Hi Ladies / Gents
Please find below the Match Report for the 60s League Game played against Woodnesborough Reds (Away) on Friday 17 Jan.
Woodnesborough started fast and we struggled initially to get hold of the ball. We had expected to play 7 per side but right before the kick off Woodnesborough announced it would be 6 per side. This threw us at the start and we didn't get time to look at the shape and setup to use.
They moved it swiftly and were all very comfortable in possession. The little time we got with the ball saw us being pinned back and not really penetrating. We didn't settle at all and the pace at which they were passing we were chasing shadows.
In a blink of an eye and with only 10 minutes gone, we were 2- 0 down. At this time though, we got to grips with the situation and started to play some good football, earning better possession and created chances. We were forcing Woodnesborough back and Andy and Mike both got shots away from decent positions.
Unfortunately, we fell 3 - 0 behind to a well taken goal by the Woodnesborough striker whose turn and low shot into the corner was unstoppable.
On the stroke of half time Colin suffered a injury and needed a blood replacement. We discussed at half time that we were giving the ball away too easily and that we needed to hold it better because when we did we had created some chances towards the end of the half.
We started the second again facing a team on the front foot. We were struggling with our makeshift defence and this was allowing them more room and time on the ball. With Colin nearly ready to return to the action Woodnesborough scored again.
We managed to get Colin back on and brought on other fresh legs to try and get something from the game. We pushed a defender further forward hoping to pin them back but wary of being exposed in defence. We did create chances and both Mike and Rob came close but we couldn't get the goals that we probably deserved.
Woodnesborough took advantage of us pushing forward and scored another couple of quick goals towards the end of the game.
The score line somewhat flattered Woodnesborough and we played better 6 - 0 suggested.
This was again a better performance and improved on the Ethelbert game and every one on the pitch contributed, so many thanks.
My thanks for Cedric who was an unused substitute.
The Player Of The Match was Rob Johnson
